Summer Learning Journey

Super Summer Learning

At the end of 2017, we were introduced to the Summer Learning Journey through the Manaiakalani Outreach Programme.  Students were able to sign up to take part by blogging throughout the summer holidays.
Today, Miss Morgan came in to present certificates and prizes to students who participated.
Two students who have now moved on the become Year 7, both did very well and have some great looking hampers to collect from school.
This has been great to see and we are looking forward to having even more people join the next journey.
Participants with their certificates.
Elijescha's effort earned her a great looking prize.
Siyona and Emily have prizes to pick up and enjoy.

Kapa Haka 2018

Kapa Haka in Te Ara Takitini

We had a great afternoon with Matua Anton, Te Ara Takitini akonga, our kaiako and our student teachers from Grad School.  The learning space came alive with the sweet sound of our voices.
We are looking forward to learning more together this term.
A few of our students during He Honore.

Mandala Art

Our First Fun Friday

One of the highlights of our week here at Ara Tū Whakatā is Fun Friday.  Each teacher runs an activity that children can opt in to.  For our first one of the year, Miss Waho and a group of students coloured some Mandala Art.  This was a great opportunity for senior students to work alongside their junior school mates.

We can't wait to finish this next week and having these on display.
Update:
Levi took his Mandala art home and worked on it from home.  Today we mounted it and laminated it for Levi to have at home.  We loved it so much Levi let us photocopy it so we can have one in our learning space.

Summer Fun

Summer Swimming

It has been a hot summer and we are so lucky to have our school pool to cool off in.  Here are a couple of pictures of Te Rōpū Whakamanawa slashing around.

Welcome Back Water Fun Day

Water Fun Day

To welcome everybody back to school and to show our value of Play!, we had a water fun day.  Students got in to groups that were made up of children from all home bases and took part in a few water filled activities.  After lunch we had a swim and water fights.

The Treaty of Waitangi

Te Treaty Of Waitangi-Te Tiriti o Waitangi

This term we have started learning about the Treaty of Waitangi.  We created a padlet to show what we knew prior to our unit and what we want to know.  At the end of our unit, we will collate our shared learning to consolidate what we know about this very important document.
Here is our padlet so far:

We also learn about different values through the Kiwi Can programme.
We look forward to sharing our values learning with you.
