Prototec Pros

 Starting Our Prototec Journey

As part of our Numeracy learning this year, we will be working on our Basic Facts and number knowledge.  Part of this will involve using Prototec and documenting our progress.

To be able to do that, we need to know how to take screenshots of our work and add these regularly to a slide.

Today, we had a go at doing this on a shared slide.

Whakamanawa Writing

 Our Holidays

This week when we were working in our home base class, Whakamanawa created a collaborative piece of writing to share something about our holidays.

We each had a slide and specific learning outcomes and criteria.  Throughout the week, we gave each other feedback and feedforward.  We then edited our writing and focused on what we could do to improve the quality.  Miss Waho then gave some more suggestions and we acted on those.

On Friday, we got into groups and read our writing to our partners.  We gave a final piece of feedback and feedforward and discussed what it means to be able to work in a group for different situations.

We worked on our digital fluency skills and shared a screenshot of our individual work on our blogs.

Here is the slide we created:

Next time, we will duplicate our slides so we can show our before feedforward and the finished version.

Reflection and Next steps: I am proud of the learning I have done.  I am a little bit nervous about sharing this out loud so I will rehearse what I am going to say.

SMART GOALS

 Reach For The Stars

This term we have created SMART Goals.  We came up with goals for Reading, Writing, Math and one other area.
To display our goals, we went with the reach for the stars theme.  Because we don't have much wall space, we decided to use our windows and some duraseal.  Here is the start of our class display.

Life Education

 Growth Mindset

At the start of term four, we had a visit from Harold and the Life Education Trust team.  Whakamanawa's learning was around a growth mindset and the brain.
Here are a few of our photos and a brainstorm of learning.

Check out our video clip of a game that uses the brain.

We now plan to take what we have learned and continue to develop a growth mindset.

Kia Kaha

Kia Kaha with Constable Brad and Constable Jess

Today we welcomed Constable Brad and Constable Jess to introduce the Kia Kaha programme.  We had some key questions that we discussed.
What makes us the same?

What makes us different?

Using the photo, children identified things we could see that make us the same and different.

In week one, we had three days of learning about nutrition and healthy eating with Sophie from the Heart Foundation.  We learned about food groups, reading food labels and how much of certain foods to eat.
Here are a few pictures of things we did.  Students in Whakamanawa are working on a blog post to share more details.

We're Back

Lockdown Learning PMI

We are back.  Term Two has started back on our school site and we are ready for learning.  Today we did a PMI chart that helped us to reflect on things about the time in lockdown.  We looked at the positives, the negatives and the things we found interesting.
Students worked on their own version of this Google Drawing and posted it to their blogs.  Check out the individual blogs to see student thoughts.

Our Onsite Bubble

 Takitini Bubble's First Week Back

As the nation has moved into Alert Level Three, we have some students and staff back at school.  This week was about settling in and developing a programme that would benefit our small groups.
We have two adults in each bubble and in ours over in Takitini Hub, we have had three fantastic students this week.
We have put together a slide and will continue to add to this as we go.  To share this week's learning, Pholody Slideshow has been used to create a photo slide.

Check it out:

We are looking forward to a full week ahead and a few more students coming to join our bubble.

Back to School

Sort of Back to School

As we have moved into Alert Level 3, there are a few of us who are heading back to school.  We have two bubbles at school and can't wait to get started.  Things look a little bit different but we are set and ready to go.
Each student has their own big workspace.

Individual workspaces have a few essentials.

GUmboot tape shows us where to sit to keep social distancing up.

Steps Stars

Stunning Steps

In Whakamanawa, one of our goals this week was to do at least 100 minutes on Steps Web.  It is only Thursday and check out these two great self-managers.

Our next goal is to get more people from Whakamanawa doing great amounts of time on Steps.
