Festival of Flowers

 Let's Create

In the last couple of days, we decided to create some artworks that we could enter into the Festival of Flowers this year.  We didn't have much time to plan for this event so it was great to have the opportunity since Athletics was postponed, to put a bit of time into our work.
Check out the pictures of our entries:

We might still have a few more entries so will add those if we do.  Our next step is to attend the festival this weekend and get some ideas and inspiration to participate and create again next year.

Life Education

 Growth Mindset

At the start of term four, we had a visit from Harold and the Life Education Trust team.  Whakamanawa's learning was around a growth mindset and the brain.
Here are a few of our photos and a brainstorm of learning.

Check out our video clip of a game that uses the brain.

We now plan to take what we have learned and continue to develop a growth mindset.

Christchurch Symphony Orchestra

 A Week Of Music Making

What a treat we had when members from the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra spent the week with us.  The week started with the whole school having an introduction session and met the team who would be working with us.
This was exciting enough for us and had us all engaged and mesmerised.

Whakamanawa had a theme of 'Climate Change' and were the CSO team were led by Thomas.  Throughout the week we learned a chant and then used drum sticks and buckets to create our music.

Being On Time

 We Value Being On Time

This week we are learning about being punctual and on time.  Our focus for this is about how our actions affect and impact on other people.
We used a Google Drawing that we used earlier in the year but changed our perspectives so we thought about other people rather than the impact on just us.
Here is a class model of what we did:

Our next step is for us to look at skills and strategies for being punctual and on time.

Cook Island Ei

 Fun Times For Fun Friday

For week 4, Mrs Ngaata and Miss Waho were continuing with some creativity from Cook Islands Language Week.  Students loved making Cook Island ei so we ran this option for Fun Friday again.

Cook Islands Fun Friday

 Cook Islands Language Week

To celebrate Cook Islands Language Week,  two of our Fun Friday options were based on Cook Islands tivaevae and ei.  Miss Waho used paper and stencils to create patterns similar t those used in tivaevae and Mrs Ngaata used straws and crepe paper to create ei.

We enjoyed these activities so much that we are going to have them as a Fun Friday option again.

Prototec August

 Basic Facts Learning

Today we have focused on using Prototec to check-in to see how our basic facts learning is going.  For this session, we had a maximum of 15 minutes to complete it.
This is my Stage 5 example.
My next step: To work on all of my basic facts at stage 5.
