What a great surprise to see Anaru and Savannah back on Gilberthorpe territory.  They came back to their old school to speak with the Senior Hub about why reading is important to them.  We were so impressed with how well they spoke and the positive messages they shared.  Our Caught Being Good award recipients were handed their awards by Savannah and Anaru.

Food for Thought

Following on from our class lessons with Chloe from the Heart Foundation, we had a visit to Pak n Save to explore the different sections of the supermarket and looked closely at food labels to help inform influence our choices and what food to eat.  Here are a few shots of us studying labels.

A Very happy Birthday Surprise

Tamara's Birthday Surprise

Wow!  What a very lucky class Rimu are.  Today Tamara turns 11 and her mum brought in some birthday treats to help celebrate with the class.  We had pizza, fizzy, treats, cheese balls, crackers and of course scrumptious birthday cake.  We all felt very lucky to be able to have this birthday surprise treat.  Thank you Kyla!!!

Tongan Language Week Art

To celebrate Tongan Language Week, for Fun Friday some children chose to do Tongan Art.  We used different shades of brown to represent Tongan Tapa.  Check out our work so far:

Pasifika Night Celebrations

Pasifika Night Celebrations

The night we have all been waiting came and was a great success.  The students from Rimu Class, Gilberthorpe School performed to a high standard and looked amazing.  This was by far the most beautiful performance we have done.  Live did an amazing job with the vision and brought together a piece that we can all be proud of.

The following day was Kids Can Mufti Day so we came to school in our PJs.  This was a nice way to relax after the night before's excitement.

Mr Wilkinson thought we deserved a treat so we ordered pizza for lunch.  Miss Waho's pizza ordering skills need work.

This week in the Senior Hub, we have Chloe from the Heart Foundation in to support our learning with nutrition and how we can keep ourselves healthy.  

Today we looked at drinks and how much sugar they contained.  We were shocked to find that e2 has twenty teaspoons of sugar. We also learned that children should not be having more than five teaspoons of added sugar a day.

We are learning about which foods to eat most of the time, sometimes and not often.  It is important for us to make the right decisions about what we eat and drink for ourselves and not be influenced by advertising.

Olympic Study

Olympic Study

We have all enjoyed the recent Rio Olympics and have been working on an Inquiry in the Senior Hub about this.  This term we have used a matrix which includes the Gardner's Multiple Intelligences and Bloom's Taxonomy: Six Thinking Levels.  We are looking forward to sharing our learning.

Children can choose activities from each area so they are learning in ways that they enjoy.
