MindMup

MindMupping

We are starting to use MindMup to helps us mind map and organise our ideas.  Part of this process will involve sharing our MindMups to our individual blogs.  Here is an example of what these may look like.

So many uses for minion cupcakes.

REACH Be Bald or Be Bold

This week is the REACH for Child Cancer fundraiser event at The Palms.  They are having a Be Bald or Be Bold.  On Monday we are having a Be Bold n Whacky Hair mufti day to help raise money for this cause...and of course do some crazy hair stuff.

Speaking of crazy hair stuff, on Saturday, Miss Waho is having a bit of a shave done.  People have been sponsoring and she will take part in the public shaving.  Keep posted to see how that pans out.

Here is her hair today...
Hmm...what will we do with this?
A bit of length there...but not for long.
We will post updates on Monday.

Our New Song

Under the same sun singing songs of freedom...

In Rimu Class today we used Google Tone to share a URL from You Tube so students could hear the new song we are going to start learning.  Matisyahu is an inspirational artist and his song One Day is a song of hope for our future.  After an impromptu sing a long, Rimu kids could be heard singing and humming to the tune so we are looking forward to sharing a clip soon of us singing.
Check it out...

Kiwi Can Fun

Kiwi Can Fun

Our Kiwi Can energiser today was a game similar to dodgeball but called Stuck Ball.  This game called on our integrity and honesty when we got hit by a ball from the opposing team.  Our shrieks of delight could be heard all over the junior court.

Riki talks with us about ways we showed integrity.

Game on!
Ready to play again.
Katie checks our integrity from the start.

Making Good Choices

'Some choices are good, some choices are bad, so pick the one, that makes us glad!'

It is here...

Our Google Cardboard Arrived

Rimu Class will be pleased to know that our cardboard has arrived.

Where shall we go?  What shall we see?  Wherever you go, you can take me...

Hello Google Cardboard

Google Cardboard...Our First Glimpse

In Rimu Class when we do our roll, we use a different country each week.  We find out what the capital is, which continent it is in, what their flag looks like, how to say hello and goodbye and what other countries live in that continent.
This week Siyona chose India for our country.
Mr Maddren was in and pulled out his phone and Google cardboard viewer.  We took a virtual tour of New Delhi.
Ashrita has a wee look around New Delhi.
Joseph took a ride on a roller coaster.
We are looking forward to our viewers that we have ordered to arrive and expand our horizons even more.

Senior Kapa Haka

Senior Kapa Haka 2016

It is so good to hear the powerful voices of our senior school Kapa Haka and Matua Anton resonating through the school again this term.  Our new waiata Rona is absolutely beautiful and we are looking forward to our next performance.
Some of the senior girls.
The majority of our group.
Matua Anton...in the middle of a waiata but still has time to pukana/pose.
Boys lines start at the front for this waiata.
It's so much easier photobombing when you are in control of the camera.  Boys are learning a new haka, Tahu Potiki.

Beginning to Blog

Today Rimu Class started blogging.  We viewed blogs from other classes and thought about what is appropriate to share and what kind of quality we want our blog content to be.  Some of us have blogged before so already have some blogging skills but some of us will be learning to blog as we go.
Today we started using a Google Doc to draft some of the things we intend to post so our posts are well written before we post them and make them public.

BYOD for Fun Friday

Today for Fun Friday we had a room full of students enjoying being able to use their devices for games at BYOD.  We had a conversation about being sensible and responsible when we are online. Some of the things we enjoyed were Animal Jam, listening to music (clean versions only), Minecraft for strategy based skills, working on docs in our drives, Mathletics, StepsWeb, Friv for School and Wild cat games.

Yes that is the same person photobombing.
