Tivaevae Patterns

Tivaevae Art

Heading towards Cook Island Māori Language Week, we decided we would do some Tivaevae patterns for Fun Friday.  We folded squares of paper and traced a stencil or created our own designs.  When our patterns were cut, we unfolded our paper to see what beautiful design we had created.  We then mounted these on paper and they were ready to display or take home.

Farewell Mrs Woermann

Bible in Schools Farewell

Today we said farewell to Mrs Woerman because it was her last day with us.  She has been taking Rimu Class for Bible in Schools lessons every Friday this year and has taught us many lessons we can use in life.
Playing a cooperative game we can see how we need each and every member of the team.

This drawing reminds us that we need to have love for God, love for others, love for the environment and love for ourselves.
Today we learned about how important each and every person is.  We talked about qualities in people that are important.
Farewell gifts for each other.  Mrs Woermann made us gingerbread people and we gave her cards and flowers.

Shalom...peace, love, perfection.

Mobile Learning Centre

Terrific Technology

Technology is a tool...a mind blowing tool.

Today we had a visit from the Noel Leeming Mobile Learning Centre.  We spent the afternoon exploring a range of fascinating technological tools.
Here we are listening to our teachers as they keep us amazed.
3D Printing
First we create a design using Tinkercad.  We can move shapes, stick them together and view them from different angles.

We then send the design to the 3D printer.
The 3D printer uses filament to create our 3D images.
Here are some of the creations made from this printer.

Max and Eve with their 3D printed sculptures of themselves.
These were all created by the 3D printer (The models the kids are holding...not the kids).

I wonder if a 3D Printer make buildings that humans can love in?
I wonder if a 3D printer make food you can eat?

 Painting using Fresh Paint

This app is a Microsoft App but there are plenty around to choose from.  The cool thing about this is that you can use a stylus and choose the tools and materials that you paint with.

Hannah has painted her dog Coco.
You can see the effect from the oil painting tool.

Coding...Computer Language
For this we used CODE Studio found at code.org

We used codes to make the Minecraft characters move in different directions and build different things.

Coding to Control a Robot

Meet Dash.

Today we used coding to control where Dash went, the sounds he made and the way his lights turned colour.
Dash was connected to our device through Bluetooth.

Virtual Reality withGoogle Cardboard

We had to be seated safely for these virtual rollercoaster rides.
Google Cardboard allows us to see almost anything and experience so many different places.

Imitating iPad

With the camera covered, the iPad sees what is placed on the space in front of it.  We can use this to create patterns, solve math problems and a whole range of other interactive learning activities.

Our next learning steps:
In Rimu Class we will continue our learning about the tools we have explores and see how these can impact on our learning.

Blog Commenting Improvements

Writing Blog Comments ... Before and After

This week in Writing, we have been learning how to write good blog comments.  Today we are looking at our progress.  Look below and you can see some before example and some after. Students in the Senior Hub have reflected on their learning and their progress by posting on their individual blogs.  Check them out by clicking on the names to the right of this page.
We started with comments like these...

We now write comments like these...

Collaborative Flower Art.

                                     Collabrative Flower Art

Today for Fun Friday we did some Collabarative Flower Art with some seniors and some juniors. We all had a a quarter of a flower and we coloured them in.  When we were finished we put them on to a piece of black paper all together.

Another team worked to collaborate on this piece, hidden slightly.
Together, these four created this flower.
