Magic from Mona Williams
Today we had a special performance from storyteller Mona Williams. This was her second time visiting Gilberthorpe School and once again she was able to captivate us with her story telling. The House that Jack Built- This was an interactive rhyme where we all did actions as we recited about a rat that ate malt, the cat that killed the rat and a range of other characters who hung out at Jack's house.
Thanks to the genius of our history-Mona asked all of our Māori students to come to the front as she acknowledged our history and heritage of genius and she did a special prayer.
Johnny Appleseed-This was a story about an ordinary person, who did an extraordinary thing. He was a poor man and had no house or food. He collected apple seeds from the apple cider factory and planted these. After he died, his friends had a big sack of seeds but Johnny did not return as he has passed away. His story lives on because apple trees grew and continue to grow.
The Delaware-Huria Matenga
This story was about a ship that came into trouble while at sea. Waves crashed and the boat was getting destroyed. Huria Matenga swam to the boat and helped the people on it make their way to safety. Only one person died and this was known as an amazing rescue because she was not a competitive swimmer.
Ordinary people who do extraordinary things.

Awesome pics guys, it's really good to have someone who can come to Gilberthorpes School and tell the story, the children get into it and read it to make it more interesting when there's someone there to tell the story.
